After winning 1st place at their building-level competitions, 18 elementary and middle school students participated in the EPS District Spelling Bee on Thursday, November 19, 2020. For the first time in District history, the event was held virtually in compliance with the National Scripps Spelling Bee protocols for virtual qualifying events, allowing participants to videoconference in from their home school while being supervised by a facilitator.
EPS would like to congratulate all participants on their hard work and commitment to educational excellence, and give special recognition to the following students for earning top place honors:
- – 1st Place: Jay Athipatla, Elkhorn Valley View Middle School
- – 2nd Place: Ananya Prassanna, West Bay Elementary
- – 3rd Place: Grady Dangberg, Westridge Elementary, and Sraavya Doddapaneni, Manchester Elementary
After 14 rounds, Jay Athipatla, 6th-grade student at Elkhorn Valley View Middle School, officially earned his 1st place position by correctly spelling the word “Jesuit”, qualifying him for the 2021 Omaha World-Heral Midwest Spelling Bee.
