Policy 203.08
Legal Counsel
The board, at its discretion, may employ legal counsel to assist the board and administration in carrying out their duties with respect to the numerous legal issues confronting the school district. The board may appoint legal counsel on an annual basis at the annual organizational meeting.
The superintendent and board president shall have the authority to contact the board’s legal counsel on behalf of the board and/or the district when necessary. The superintendent may designate other district administrators to contact legal counsel directly on matters particular to an administrator’s assigned duties. It shall be the responsibility of the superintendent to keep the board informed of matters for which legal counsel was consulted, particularly if the legal services will involve unusual expense for the school district.
