Grades K-5: 3:00 -7:00 PM
Grades 6-8: 4:30 – 8:30 PM
Grades 9-12: 5:00 – 9:00 PM
Additionally, there will be no school for EPS students on Friday, February 21, 2020.
The month of January is nationally recognized as National Mentoring Month when programs honor mentors for their service and the impact they’re making by simply being there for students.
In honor of National Mentoring Month, TeamMates of Elkhorn would like to thank the more than 80 mentors who have dedicated their time to being there for our students. The commitment made by mentors is an impactful one, as the relationships they are building are long-lasting and incredibly beneficial for our students.
“We are grateful for every TeamMates mentor,” TeamMates Executive Director Sarah Waldman explained. “Every TeamMates mentor I speak with talks about how mentoring has been an incredibly positive experience for them. I hope more caring adults will join us so they too can experience the positive impact of mentoring.”
TeamMates mentors fulfill the mission of the TeamMates Mentoring Program of impacting the world by inspiring youth to reach their full potential by meeting with their mentee one-on-one weekly during the school year. The TeamMates Mentoring Program is a school-based program, providing meeting times only during school hours.
Mentees are students in grades 3-12 who can be nominated to participate in the program in one of three ways. They can be nominated by a parent or a school staff member, or students can self-nominate. Mentors are not tutors or counselors, nor are they there to “fix” anything— they are there to be friends. Matches are relationship-based, and mentors are matched with mentees based on similar interests and life experiences.

Several students were recently chosen to represent EHS at various upcoming leadership opportunities, giving participants an opportunity to develop their skills.
After demonstrating outstanding leadership potential, Alden Mays was selected to attend the Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminar. The HOBY Seminar, a yearly summer event held at a Nebraska College or University, will be held at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska. HOBY’s mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation.
Elijah Larson was selected to attend the Nebraska Leadership Seminar (NLS) at Southeast Community College in Milford, Nebraska this summer. Nebraska Leadership Seminar, Inc. (NLS) is a nonprofit organization focused upon helping students recognize their leadership strengths. Each year, NLS hosts a four-day seminar for high school sophomores to challenge, empower and inspire them to become the leaders Nebraska needs.
Both students were selected to represent EHS after completing an extensive application and interviewing process, and both are actively involved at EHS and have numerous volunteer and leadership experiences in our community.
HOBY also facilitates an outstanding freshman leadership experience called HOBY Community Leadership Workshop (CLeW). CLeW offers students a one-day HOBY-style experience about leadership and community service. Students interested in attending CLeW go through an application process at EHS. This year, Vansi Singu was selected to attend CLeW.
Elkhorn Public Schools (EPS) is one of only two Nebraska school districts, and only 250 districts nationally, named to the College Board’s 10th Annual AP District Honor Roll. For the eighth consecutive year, EPS has increased the number of students participating in AP courses, while also increasing the percentage of students earning AP Exam scores of 3 or higher.
During the 2018-19 school year, AP offerings in EPS high schools included courses in the subject areas of History, Biology, English, Calculus, Chemistry, Computer Science, Foreign Languages, Government, Psychology, and Statistics. In all, the total student enrollment in EPS AP courses was over 2,000, with over 1,500 AP exams taken district-wide.
“Being named to the AP Honor Roll for the eighth consecutive year is an outstanding accomplishment. It is reflective of the system-wide culture of continuous improvement that our staff has created with high expectations, guaranteed curriculum, collaboration, and rigorous coursework for students. We are proud of our students for their commitment to continually strive for this level of academic outcome,“ said EPS superintendent Dr. Bary Habrock.
