EPS Earns National Recognitions
Best Public Education District in Nebraska
Elkhorn Public Schools was recently named the “Best Public Education District in Nebraska” by Business Insider. The list was determined based on the following factors: the strength of academics, health and safety, diversity, and the quality of teachers, with EPS earning A+ rankings in three of the four categories. 2018 Best School Districts in America
Of over 9,500 eligible districts, Elkhorn Public Schools was recently ranked number 311 and one of only two districts in Nebraska named to the “2018 Best School Districts in America” list, compiled by the National Council for Home Safety and Security. Districts on the list were reviewed and ranked based on several factors, including school funding, poverty rate, drop out rate, and student performance. 100th Percentile for Learning Growth
The New York Times recently reported results from a Stanford University study that looked at the amount of learning growth that is achieved by districts across the nation. Elkhorn Public Schools was scored at the 100th percentile, which is the top possible rating in the study. The review indicated that EPS students achieved 6.4 years of growth during 5 years of school. Superintendent Dr. Bary Habrock will be meeting with all EPS elementary and middle school PTO and booster groups in the coming weeks to address the District’s rapid growth and discuss plans for the future. EPS Named to 8th Annual AP Honor Roll
For the sixth consecutive year, Elkhorn Public Schools has earned the honor of being named to the College Board’s 8th Annual AP® Honor Roll. Nationwide, EPS is among only 450 school districts across the United States and parts of Canada being honored by the College Board with this placement for simultaneously increasing access to Advanced Placement coursework while also increasing the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher on AP Exams.
Inclusion on the 8th Annual AP District Honor Roll is based on the examination of three years of AP data with the following criteria:
- Increase participation/access to AP by at least 4% in large districts, at least 6% in medium districts, and at least 11% in small districts;
- Increase or maintain the percentage of American Indian/Alaska Native, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, and Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander students taking exams and increase or maintain the percentage of American Indian/Alaska Native, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, and Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander students scoring 3+ on at least one AP Exam; and
- Improve or maintain performance levels when comparing the 2017 percentage of students scoring a 3 or higher to the 2015 percentage, unless the district has already attained a performance level at which more than 70% of its AP students earn a 3 or higher.
Helping more students learn at a higher level and earn higher AP scores is an objective of all members of the AP community, from AP teachers to district and school administrators to college professors. During the 2016-2017 school year, Elkhorn students from both high schools took a total of nearly 1,300 exams and the total number of students taking these exams has more than doubled in five years. Reaching these goals and earning this honor indicates that EPS is successfully identifying motivated, academically prepared students who are likely to benefit from rigorous AP course work.
