Several students were recently chosen to represent ESHS at various upcoming leadership opportunities, giving participants an opportunity to develop their skills.
After demonstrating outstanding leadership potential, sophomore Emma LeDent, daughter of Jeff and Suzanne LeDent, was selected to attend the Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminar. The HOBY Seminar, a yearly summer event held at a Nebraska College or University, will be held at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska. HOBY’s mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation.
Sophomore Zachary Eischeid was selected to attend the Nebraska Leadership Seminar (NLS) at Southeast Community College in Milford, Nebraska this summer. Zac is the son of Chris and Terri Eischeid of Valley. Nebraska Leadership Seminar, Inc. (NLS) is a nonprofit organization focused upon helping students recognize their leadership strengths. Each year, NLS hosts a four-day seminar for high school sophomores to challenge, empower and inspire them to become the leaders Nebraska needs.
Both students were selected to represent Elkhorn South after completing an extensive application and interviewing process, and both are actively involved at Elkhorn South and have numerous volunteer and leadership experiences in our community.
HOBY also facilitates an outstanding freshman leadership experience called HOBY Community Leadership Workshop (CLeW). CLeW offers students a one-day HOBY-style experience about leadership and community service. Students interested in attending CLeW go through an application process at Elkhorn South. This year, Brooke Kingston and Meenakshi Sanikommu were selected to attend CLeW. Brooke is the daughter of Kyan and Alison Kingston of Omaha. Meenakshi is the daughter of Sudhakar Sanikommu and Nagavardhini Avuthu of Omaha.
Elkhorn Public Schools (EPS) is one of
only two Nebraska school districts, and only 250 districts nationally, named to
the College Board’s 10th Annual AP District Honor Roll. For the eighth consecutive year, EPS has increased the
number of students participating in AP courses, while also increasing the
percentage of students earning AP Exam scores of 3 or higher.
During the 2018-19 school year, AP
offerings in EPS high schools included courses in the subject areas of History,
Biology, English, Calculus, Chemistry, Computer Science, Foreign Languages, Government,
Psychology, and Statistics. In all, the total
student enrollment in EPS AP courses was over 2,000, with over 1,500 AP exams
taken district-wide.
“Being named to the AP Honor Roll for the eighth consecutive
year is an outstanding accomplishment. It is reflective of the
system-wide culture of continuous improvement that our staff has created with
high expectations, guaranteed curriculum, collaboration, and rigorous
coursework for students. We are proud of our students for their
commitment to continually strive for this level of academic outcome,“ said EPS
superintendent Dr. Bary Habrock.

Congratulations and thank you to all of our fall sports and activities teams for representing Elkhorn High School with a high caliber of play and, more importantly, high class and sportsmanship.
A brief season wrap-up and awards distinctions include:
Girls softball had a great season, ending with an 18-16 record in Class A.
Girls and boys cross country teams qualified for the state tournament, placing 7th and 9th, respectively.
Members of the boys tennis team placed 7th at the state tournament in #2 singles and 6th in #2 doubles.
Football advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class A State Finals, ending their season with a 7-4 record.
Volleyball earned the title of METRO Conference champions and qualified for a spot in the Class A State Tournament, ending their season with a 29-8 record.
Girls golf competed well, qualifying for the Class A Team State Tournament.
ESHS Competitive band finished 7th out of 19 bands at the Nebraska State bandmasters Association championships.
ESHS performers completed 4 successful performances of “Peter Pan”.

12 ESHS vocalists were selected 2019 Nebraska All State Musicians.
As members of the Elkhorn Technology Team (ETT), high school
students throughout Elkhorn Public Schools (EPS) have a unique opportunity to
earn class credit while also gaining hands-on experience working with the
hardware and software systems utilized throughout the District.
Prospective members must express interest in ETT as part of
the annual class registration process, and those that become members forego a
study hall option in favor of this highly sought after student aid position. In
its second year, over 40 high school students district-wide are dedicating a
portion of their school day, and sometimes volunteering after-school time, to
ensuring that student devices are up and running. Once assigned to ETT,
students work with members of the EPS Technology staff and the school’s media
specialist to ensure accuracy of repairs and receive weekly training and daily
guidance in both repairs and varying software programs and their uses.
Primarily, ETT members work on repairing student Chromebooks
distributed to 6th-12th grade students as part of the EPS 1:1 device
initiative. Members take part in varying
types of repairs, including both hardware and software, and must diligently
document their processes and any repairs made. From there, a supervisor reviews
their work to ensure accuracy. In addition to working with Chromebooks, ETT
members also assist with building-level technology. If a projector needs
maintenance or a staff member is encountering audio problems, ETT members are
able to work through their processes to correct them.
ETT provides many benefits to both students and the
District. Members are able to gain career experience, while also improving
valuable skills in customer service, problem-solving, and detail-orientation.
For the District, providing adult training and repair supervision allows ETT
members to be a great resource and front-line response to Chromebook and
classroom repairs while also allowing students to continue building their
resumes.
According to Jessica Ethridge, Media Specialist and ETT
Supervisor at Elkhorn High School, one of the biggest benefits to ETT is the opportunity
for students to become acquainted with others of similar interests which has
allowed the forming of the tight-knit family that they have all come to appreciate
and rely on.
