Given the increased popularity of e-bikes and motorized scooters, and the priority placed on the safety of students and staff, we want to remind families about the importance of safe riding habits such as wearing helmets, stopping at all stop signs, and staying aware of surroundings. It is the responsibility of families to ensure that any method of transportation a student is utilizing is legal and that all applicable laws and regulations are followed when traveling to and from school.
Notably, the EPS Elementary Handbook, as quoted below, prohibits the use of motorized scooters on school property:
Safety conditions for riding bicycles differ among the various elementary school attendance areas. Each elementary school has an established practice with the safety of children as its first consideration. It may be necessary for school officials to revoke the privilege if safety violations occur. The school is not responsible for lost or damaged bicycles. Motorized scooters and skateboards are prohibited.

For the safety of all parties, students are discouraged from riding skateboards, scooters, bikes, etc. around on school property. Elkhorn Public Schools does not accept responsibility for any personal injuries, theft, or damages a person may incur when riding on school grounds. Bikes, scooters, etc. must be secured on a bike rack. Skateboards must be secured (ex. in a backpack) to be allowed on a school bus or other school vehicle. Any person causing damage to school property by use of skateboards or other means will be held responsible and will face appropriate consequences.
